remand detention

If you are heavily suspected of having committed a crime you can be put in remand detention. The legal requirements for this are the existence of grounds for detention and that the detention is not a disproportionate action compared to the alleged crime. The most common ground for detention is the risk of flight.
Whether or not you are put in remand detention has to be decided by a judge on the day after your arrest at the latest. If prosecutors want to put you in front of this judge you are immideately entitled to a court-appointed defense lawyer.
